Meridian Mining (LON/ TSX: MNO) is focused on developing the Cabaçal project in Brazil, a former producing mine that management believes can be redeveloped into a long-life, low-cost operation with exposure to both copper and gold. Recent financing and a London listing have strengthened the balance sheet and broadened access to capital. For investors, the attraction is clear: if Cabaçal can be built broadly on schedule and budget, Meridian could graduate from junior developer to mid-tier producer. A Pre-feasibility Study from March 2025 outlined a base case after-tax NPV of $984 million and 61.2% IRR from a pre-production capital cost of $248 million, leading to capital repayment in 17 months (assuming metals price scenario of $2,119 per ounce of gold, $4.16 per pound of copper, and $26.89 per ounce of silver). Cabaçal has a low All-in-Sustaining-Cost of $742 per ounce gold equivalent and an annual production profile of 141,000 ounces of gold equivalent life of mine.
The short interview below with CEO Gilbert Clark, filmed at the time of Meridian’s London listing in May 2026, outlines the company’s strategy to develop the Cabaçal gold/ copper project and beyond
