Foresight Environmental Infrastructure (FGEN) holds a key position in the UK’s low-carbon transport shift through its investment in CNG Fuels, Europe’s largest supplier of 100% renewable biomethane for heavy goods vehicles. The business operates a growing network of public-access refuelling stations across the UK, supplying fleet operators with a direct alternative to diesel. With sites strategically located along major logistics routes, CNG Fuels is building critical infrastructure that enables large-scale decarbonisation of road freight.

We recently produced a short film on behalf of FGEN highlighting CNG Fuels’ operations, with on-site footage and key performance metrics illustrating how the platform is scaling across the UK.

The model is simple but effective: take biomethane derived from waste, distribute it through a national refuelling network, and sell it to commercial fleets under long-term demand. Customers include major blue-chip operators such as Amazon, Tesco, Asda, Waitrose and Marks & Spencer, demonstrating real-world adoption rather than theoretical demand. This is not early-stage technology risk. It is already in use at scale, embedded into logistics operations that require reliability and cost control.

From a performance and impact perspective, the numbers are meaningful. Biomethane can reduce vehicle CO₂ emissions by up to 90%, while also cutting noise pollution by up to 50%. It is also economically competitive, with fuel cost savings typically in the 18–25% range, and in some cases up to 30–40% versus diesel. In 2025 alone, CNG Fuels’ customers saved around 256,000 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions, underlining both the environmental and commercial case for adoption.

For FGEN investors, CNG Fuels represents exactly the type of asset the portfolio is designed to capture: operational, revenue-generating infrastructure tied to structural decarbonisation trends. It combines contracted demand, essential service provision and clear ESG impact, while benefiting from increasing regulatory and corporate pressure to reduce emissions in transport. As the UK logistics sector transitions away from diesel, assets like CNG Fuels move from “alternative” to essential.
