B.P. Marsh takes 27% stake in underwriting start-up Cameron Specialty
Specialist private equity investor B.P. Marsh (BPM) has added another early-stage insurance business to its growing portfolio, taking a 27 per cent stake in Cameron Specialty, a London-based underwriting agency focused on UK property insurance.
Founded in 2021, Cameron Specialty targets the commercial combined and property owners’ segments, and is led by insurance industry veteran Tom Kirkland, who brings two decades of experience across both underwriting and broking.
B.P. Marsh has committed up to £1.7mn in funding, comprising a mix of equity and a loan facility. Part of the loan was drawn at completion, providing immediate capital to support growth initiatives.
The new capital injection will help Cameron Specialty expand its footprint beyond the UK, with plans to enter the Republic of Ireland and European markets. The company also aims to broaden its product suite over time, building on existing broker relationships.
This investment fits squarely within B.P. Marsh’s strategy of backing early-stage businesses in niche areas of financial services, where experienced management teams and strong distribution networks provide opportunities for outsized returns.
